O2 condemns lawyers targeting alleged file-sharers

Mobile firm O2 has stepped into the row over thousands of controversial letters that are being sent to alleged illegal file-sharers in the UK.

This is again another story of these companies taking it too far with the end users for file sharing and they thing is most of these claims of infringement they can't prove.

Why, cos all they can see is the actual file name you're downloading and that means you could name your own home video to HARRY POTTER and they consider this infringement of sharing the movie harry potter.
it's an absolute joke on what these companies are trying to do to the end users and it needs to be stopped, they only way currently to make sure that your protected from companies like this is to secure your connection with a VPN.

Watchdog finds public Wi-Fi hotspots open to hackers

wifi_zone.jpg
Connections provided by the UK's top three Wi-Fi networks - BT Openzone, The Cloud, and T-Mobile - are all vulnerable to attack by hackers, leaving people at risk of fraud, according to BBC's Watchdog.

In a programme due to air on Thursday night, it claims that the thousands of hotspots available nationwide - in hotels, trains, airport lounges and high street food outlets - are less safe than they appear.

Watchdog said that it

used equipment readily available on the internet to hijack wireless traffic at a variety of hotspots, while experts working with the programme-makers could have been able to take control of other hotspot users' internet accounts. Once inside these accounts, malicious hackers would have then been able to harvest masses of personal data which could enable them to access the users' accounts on a variety of websites, including those for shopping and banking.

Open VPN

openVPN.jpg
OpenVPN is a free and open source software application that implements virtual private network (VPN) solutions for creating secure point-to-point or site-to-site connections in routed or bridged configurations and remote access facilities.

It uses SSL/TLS security for encryption and is capable of traversing network address translators (NATs) and firewalls. It was written by James Yonan and is published under the GNU General Public License (GPL).

Open VPN is much better and more reliable than PPTP VPN, but requires a more complicated set up on your local computer.

Mobiles devices such as IPHONE and Blackberry, currently don't support OPEN vpn and you would have to also use PPTP VPN.

Here is a typical OpenVPN installation on windows

Interview with a hacker and why use a VPN

There are many videos around about young hackers and this video shows you why it's important to be using VPN technology while surfing the internet at home, on an open wifi or in hotels.

This video is a clip from an interview i found on youtube

Free VPN

After doing a lot of research on VPN providers the one that i found to be the most affordable was proXPN as they are currently offering a free beta.

Their VPN is secure, free and fast.
I also found they have some cool videos on YouTube

They also offer an easy install, not like many other VPN providers where it gets very complicated to install and set up, proXPN's solution is simple, fast and effective.

It's a dream to install and use, although it's not perfectly polished and i do hope to see they will be providing slightly better software that is more please to the eye.

Top and bottom of it is that, it works.
